EUTRAIN Workshop in Athens: “International transport research cooperation in the Mediterranean region”


The EUTRAIN consortium successfully organized a one day Conference – workshop, that took place in Athens on July 16, 2012.

The workshop aimed to promote and discuss the possibilities of greater cooperation between Mediterranean sea countries with the EU in the field of transport and all the related issues.

The objective of the workshop was to discuss the transport research interests and current policies in the countries of the region of the Mediterranean, the difficulties that exist in participating in EU transport research programmes (and research in general), the potential for future improvements, and the recommendations that could be made to improve the access of research Organisations from the countries concerned to EU research programmes. At the same time participants of the workshop were provided with the most recent information concerning the current transport policies as well as the plans for the next EU research framework programme for the period 2014-2020 the so called “Horizon 2020” programme.

Two social events also took place on Sunday, July 15 and Monday, July 16.
