The Volvo Group is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of trucks, buses and construction equipment, drive systems for marine and industrial applications, aerospace components and services. Our business areas are – Volvo Trucks, Mack, Renault Trucks, Volvo Buses, Volvo Construction Equipment, Volvo Penta, Volvo Aero and Volvo Financial Services. Several business units provide additional manufacturing development or logistical support. The largest business units are: Volvo Powertrain, Volvo 3P, Volvo IT, Volvo Logistics, Volvo Parts and Volvo Technology. Founded in 1927, Volvo today has 83,000 employees, production in 25 countries and operates on more than 185 markets. The Volvo Group's net sales 2006 amounted to € 26.8m /US$ 33.6m. Volvo Technology is a Business Unit of the Volvo Group (i.e. AB Volvo) with head office in Gothenburg (Sweden) and offices in Lyon (France) and Greensboro/Allentown (United States). It is an innovation company that on contract basis invents researches, develops and integrates new product and business concepts and technology for hard as well as soft products within the transport and vehicle industry. Our primary customers are the Volvo Group Business Areas & Units and Volvo Cars. In addition, we participate in national and international projects in certain strategic areas, organised in common research programmes. Volvo Technology has more than 400 professionals. Volvo Technology/Volvo Group has been very active in European Framework Programs for a long time. In FP6, Volvo Technology was coordinator for example for AIDE and GREEN research projects. Furthermore, Volvo Technology/Volvo Group is a major partner in several STREPs/IPs: FIDEUS, PReVENT, SafeSpot, CVIS, HeavyRoute, ECBOS, VC Compat, MyCAR, EBSF, KAP, etc. Volvo Technology is also leading and participating in national research projects mainly in Sweden, France and United States.
